13th National Election: BNP Announces Candidates for 237 Seats — Excitement in Barguna; NCP Also Reveals Its Nominee List

As the 13th National Parliamentary Election approaches, Bangladesh’s political atmosphere is heating up. On Monday evening (November 3), the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) announced the names of its 237 prospective candidates at a press conference held at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan. The list was officially released by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

🔹 Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman to Contest Multiple Seats

During the press briefing, it was revealed that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will contest from three constituencies—Dinajpur-3, Bogura-7, and Feni-1—while Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will contest from Bogura-6.

🗳️ Excitement in Barguna over Candidate Announcements

The announcement sparked widespread enthusiasm among BNP supporters in Barguna.

In the declared list, Md. Nazrul Islam Mollah, Convenor of Barguna District BNP, received the party nomination for Barguna-1 (Sadar, Amtali, and Taltali), while Alhaj Nurul Islam Moni, Vice Chairman of BNP’s National Executive Committee and a former three-time Member of Parliament, was nominated for Barguna-2 (Patharghata, Bamna, and Betagi).

Following the announcement, jubilant BNP activists held processions and rallies in support of the party’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol across Barguna, Amtali, Taltali, Patharghata, Bamna, and Betagi.

Barguna District BNP Member Secretary S.M. Humayun Hasan Shaheen expressed confidence, saying:

 “We have got our desired candidates in both Barguna seats. The party’s position here is very strong and united. InshaAllah, we will win both constituencies by a large margin.”

💬 Candidates’ Reactions

Md. Nazrul Islam Mollah (Barguna-1) said:

“I’m grateful to the party leadership for their trust. Since 1991, BNP hasn’t fielded a candidate in Barguna-1. The majority of people here want to see BNP back in power. InshaAllah, victory will be ours.”

Alhaj Nurul Islam Moni (Barguna-2) stated:

“For the last 17 years, this constituency has seen no real development. During my tenure, we implemented several key projects. If elected again, I’ll work to establish a strong economic zone in Barguna, based on its strategic coastal position.”

❌ Notable Omissions Create Discussion

Political discussions have emerged after some heavyweight leaders were excluded from the 237-seat list.

Dhaka-12: Former Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel was expected but former Jubo Dal President Saiful Alam Nirab received the nomination instead.

Barishal-2: Former MP Mojammel Hossain Alal was replaced by Sarafuddin Ahmed Santu, a BNP central executive member and Uzirpur Upazila President.

Other senior figures, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Barrister Rumin Farhana, were also left out of the initial list. However, party insiders hinted that further adjustments may be made before the final announcement.

🟢 NCP Announces Its Candidate List

On the same night, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) unveiled its list of candidates for the upcoming general election.

NCP Convenor Nahid Islam will contest from Dhaka-11 (Badda, Bhatara, and Rampura).

Other announced candidates include:

Dhaka-18: Nasiruddin Patowary (Chief Coordinator)

Narsingdi-2: Sarwar Tushar (Joint Convenor)

Rangpur-4: Akhtar Hossain (Member Secretary)

Panchagarh-1: Sarzis Alam (Chief Organizer, North Zone)

Cumilla-4: Hasnat Abdullah

Dhaka-10: Asif Mahmud

Dhaka-9: Tasnim Jara

NCP Convenor Nahid Islam stated:

 “We are participating in this election to restore people’s voting rights. Every NCP candidate represents local leadership and public trust.”
